Astronomy Day 2021!

Astronomy Day 2021

Celebrate Astronomy Day 2021 outside the planetarium. Staff will be passing out take-home activity kits full of fun ways to do astronomy at home! You can also enjoy (socially distant) demonstrations and enter to win a raffle prize!

Activity kits are free and will contain 3 activities fit for all ages. All materials will be provided except for scissors and tape. In addition, you will receive written instructions and a link to video instructions. There is a limited supply and are first come first serve.

  • Build a Spectroscope: Investigate light just like an astronomer and learn how the rainbow tells us so much information about the object you are looking at!
  • Explore Filtered Light: Make your own hidden messages with different colored crayons and filters and learn how astronomers use these same techniques to study the universe!
  • Investigate the Hubble Space Telescope: Craft your own model of the Hubble Space Telescope and learn how it uses a spectroscope and filters to explore the cosmos!
  • Also included are coloring pages, activity sheets, and other fun goodies!

In addition to the free kit, there will be an additional activity you can purchase for a small fee to be able to make your own telescope at home!

The raffle winner will be announced via Facebook that evening. The winner will have ONE week to get in touch with the planetarium to arrange pick-up. You will need to show your raffle ticket as proof.

To keep staff and the community safe we are asking guests to wear facemasks and adhere to social distancing guidelines. The event will have a one-way walk through. A map will be posted to our Facebook page the morning of the event.
