We invite you to join us for the Lake Superior Youth Symposium at UMD May 15-18, 2025

The Lake Superior Youth Symposium is an amazing and unique opportunity for 8th-12th grade students to immerse in interdisciplinary Lake Superior stewardship with hands-on learning, field trips, and fun.

Past STEM Discovery: In-person event on Saturday, February 3, 2024

This is a hands-on science, technology, engineering and math activities morning designed for middle and high school students here at UMD. This is a free full or half-day event and includes lunches for registered students!

Youth choose from the following sets of different STEM fields to explore:

  • Green Screen Technology at UMD (Emerging Tech), Let's Compound a Lotion* (Pharmacy),  Investigating the Science Behind Language (Psychology/ Linguistics)
  • Automotive Jeopardy (Mechanical Engineering), Playing with Planaria Regeneration (Biology), Mars: The Ultimate Journey Planetarium Show (Astronomy)
  • Safe, Efficient, Engineering: Human vs. Computer (Chemical Engineering), Earth Science Explorations (Earth & Environmental Science), Using Science to Explore Space (Physics & Astronomy)

Who can attend? 6th- 12th grade students interested in having fun and learning about STEM fields

When was it? Saturday February 3, 2024

 9 am-12 pm (morning session), 11:30 am-3 pm (afternoon session), or 9 am-3 pm (all day) 

Where is it? All across the UMD campus, check in will be at Kirby Ballroom

Free busing will be available at local schools to those who register and request first: Denfeld High School, Lincoln Park Middle School, Ordean Middle School, Superior Middle School
