Laboratory Safety
UMD Laboratory Safety Plan (LSP) - Policies, procedures, equipment, personal protective equipment and work practices that are capable of protecting employees from the health hazards (OSHA- and MERTKA-regulated substances) in laboratories.
The lab safety plan is intended to meet the requirements of the federal Laboratory Safety Standard, formally known as "Occupational Exposure to Hazardous Chemicals in Laboratories".

The Chemistry and Biochemistry Department is committed to the highest UMD safety standards in order to create a safe working/learning environment for its students, staff and faculty. These safety procedures are also designed to minimize the impact of our activities on the environment and surrounding community, in accordance with local, state and federal regulations.
