LATIN HONORS

Baccalaureate degree candidates who have done outstanding work may be awarded special honors upon completion of all degree requirements through graduation with Latin honors.

Swenson College has a policy that no more than 15% of the graduating class can graduate with honors. In addition, those receiving honors must have a coefficient of completion of at least 90%. Grade point average and coefficient of completion will be calculated on University of Minnesota coursework. In order to be eligible for honors, at least 45 credits must be earned at UMD. There will be three levels of honors within these limitations.

Each college identifies the criteria for Latin honors based upon the previous year’s (fall, spring and summer) graduating class GPAs are as follows:

Honor level Percentage Minimum Cumulative GPA
Summa 3% 3.983
Magna 5% 3.95
Cum Laude 7% 3.93
