Dean's List & Honors
You are here
Each semester, we recognize students for high academic achievement by placing them on the Swenson College Dean’s List for Academic Excellence and noting this achievement on their transcripts. To be eligible for our Dean’s List, you must:
Be in residence in the Swenson College of Science and Engineering
Have earned a 3.50 or higher semester GPA
Have completed all credits attempted in the semester
Have completed a minimum of 12 letter-graded credits in the semester
Have no grades of "I," "F," or "N" for the semester
Please note: UMD supplies the names of Dean’s List honorees to their hometown newspapers for recognition in print, unless you have chosen to have your contact information suppressed from public record. The web site listing includes all honorees except students who have chosen directory suppression or total suppression.
You can review and modify your suppression choices for future semesters by visiting the UMD online directory, clicking “update personal information” toward the bottom, and then select "Directory Suppression" from the Menu at the top of the next page.
Swenson College has a policy that no more than 15% of the graduating class can graduate with honors. There will be three levels of honors within this limitation:
Summa 3% -3.928 minimum grade point average
Magna 5% - 3.901 minimum gpa
Cum Laude 7%- 3.726 minimum gpa
In addition, those receiving honors must have a coefficient of completion of at least 90%. Grade point average and coefficient of completion will be calculated on University of Minnesota coursework. In order to be eligible for honors, at least 45 credits must be earned at UMD.
