Each semester, we recognize students for high academic achievement by placing them on the Swenson College Dean’s List for Academic Excellence and noting this achievement on their transcripts. To be eligible for our Dean’s List, you must:
Be in residence in the Swenson College of Science and Engineering
Have earned a 3.50 or higher semester GPA
Have completed all credits attempted in the semester (no W's)
Have completed a minimum of 12 letter-graded credits in the semester
Have no grades of "I," "F," or "N" for the semester
Please note: Dean’s List honorees can be celebrated with your hometown! Share your success with your hometown newspaper and get recognition in print.
The website listing includes all honorees except students who have chosen any type of suppression, address, phone, directory suppression or total suppression.
Students can modify suppression choices for future semesters by visiting the UMD online directory, clicking “update personal information” toward the bottom, and then select "Directory Suppression" from the menu at the top of the next page.
Baccalaureate degree candidates who have done outstanding work may be awarded special honors upon completion of all degree requirements through graduation with Latin honors.
Swenson College has a policy that no more than 15% of the graduating class can graduate with honors. In addition, those receiving honors must have a coefficient of completion of at least 90%. Grade point average and coefficient of completion will be calculated on University of Minnesota coursework. In order to be eligible for honors, at least 45 credits must be earned at UMD. There will be three levels of honors within these limitations.
Each college identifies the criteria for Latin honors based upon the previous year’s graduating class GPAs. Honors GPA applicable to fall 2020 spring 2021 summer 2021 undergraduates are as follows:
