A member of the Rocketry Club meets with a group of middle-schoolers to tell them about the group's rocket design and their experience taking part in rocketry competitions every spring.
Connecting with our Community
Our faculty and students are involved with many outreach efforts.
Every year we take part in Swenson College's Science & Engineering day, which gives middle and high school students an opportunity to work with hands-on engineering activities.
We also regularly host tour groups that spend the day taking part in engaging science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) lessons.
Learn more about our outreach efforts on the Swenson College outreach site and you can contact our department's outreach committee representative Ping Zhao at [email protected] if you have specific questions about coordinating an activity with the Mechanical & Industrial Engineering Department.
Current Students Also Benefit
Our hope is to inspire more young people to pursue STEM learning and in the process give our current students a chance to share what they've learned and help inspire young people.
Many Mechanical and Industrial engineering students have taught kids as part of Swenson College after-school programs, taking time out of their busy schedules to provide much needed mentoring and teach basic engineering skills to elementary students.
