Offered by the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department, this 10-week program gives undergraduate students the chance to partner with a member of the Chemistry graduate faculty in analytical, biochemistry, biogeochemistry, bioinorganic, inorganic, organic and physical chemistry.
The application to try for the summer of 2017 program is not yet available. Applications are typically due in February and spots will be awarded based on a competitive evaluation of academic performance, transcript, personal statement and letters of recommendation.
Applicants must be undergraduate students majoring in Chemistry or Biochemistry/Molecular Biology who have completed at least two years of college level chemistry and a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.
SURP Award winners are expected to complete a total of 10 weeks, approximately 40 hours per week, between May 31 and August 5.
Each participant is awarded $4,300. Housing, health insurance and transportation are not included in this award.
Preference is given to students completing their third year of Chemistry or Biochemistry/Molecular Biology curriculum, planning to attend graduate school and those that have not previously received a SURP award.
In addition to working on their research, participants attend weekly seminars, research group meetings, recreational activities and the SURP Poster Symposium.
