The Math & Statistics Department faculty and staff are dedicated to providing excellent undergraduate and graduate programs and inspiring people of all ages to pursue math education.

We offer Bachelor of Science degrees in Mathematics and Statistics and Actuarial Science. For those who want to teach at the secondary level, we offer the Bachelor of Applied Science degree cooperatively with the Department of Education. And, at the graduate level we offer the Master of Science in Applied and Computational Mathematics.

Helping You Succeed

Our undergraduates get one-on-one attention from our faculty and the added benefit of many dedicated and helpful graduate students acting as teaching assistants to help ensure student success. There are also great on campus resources like the new Securian Mathematics Laboratory featured in this video.

Student Research

In addition to teaching, our faculty have active research programs and will partner with undergraduate and graduate students to give them the chance to conduct research, publish results and present their findings.

Outreach & Opportunity

Our community outreach efforts are also top notch as we offer the University of Minnesota Talented Youth Mathematics Program (UMTYMP) and a Math Prep program for low income, minority or first generation college freshman to get caught up on important math skills prior to starting their college career.

Ours is a thriving department full of opportunity and excitement as we continue to grow and adapt to the needs of our community and the evolving world of science, engineering, technology and math careers.

Weekly Colloquium

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers a weekly colloquium series on Thursdays. Most colloquia begin between 3:00 and 3:30. Seminars alternate between those aimed at Undergraduate (type U) and Graduate (type G) audiences.
