Campus Visits and STEM tours

Campus Tours

Tours of Swenson College’s labs, unique spaces and outdoor classrooms are an opportunity for 6-8th grade students to experience science in a meaningful way. High school students or groups should contact Admissions to schedule a campus visit.

Contact Amy, Outreach Coordinator, at 218-726-7409 or email [email protected] to inquire about opportunities to visit a specific science and engineering related site. Please request tours at least 12 weeks in advance.

The Planetarium and Greenhouse are popular tour destinations for school groups and can be booked below.

UMD Greenhouse/Botany Tours

The Department of Biology's greenhouses are the core support facilities for plants used in our instructional laboratories and research programs.  The year-round warmth and beauty of our greenhouse attracts many visitors from around campus and the Duluth community to learn about native and exotic plants, rearing techniques, and to obtain a respite from the northern Minnesota weather.

Greenhouse tours are free to the community and are offered Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 3 PM (last tour scheduled at 2 PM).  Greenhouse tours should be scheduled at least two weeks in advance.  Tour registration forms are available online.  The greenhouse can accommodate up to 20 individuals per tour group.

  • Learn about edible plants
  • Learn about medicinal properties of some plants
