Brief Bio Professor Xu has an educational background in Chemical Engineering as well as Materials Science. He also obtained multiple years’ industrial experience in a petrochemical company. At UMD, his teaching interest includes thermodynamics, engineering materials, and mineral processing. Professor Xu’s research background is mainly on optical and electronic materials and devices, like quantum dots, semiconductor polymers, organic solar cells, organic light-emitting diodes, etc. His current research interest includes optical properties of nanomaterials, light-harvesting materials; third-generation solar cells, and mineral materials.
