Brief Bio
Dr. Shimotori (nickname “Shimo”) started his research career in Japan in a catalytic reaction engineering lab. After coming to the US, his research interests turned to how to apply various chemical engineering approaches to solve environmental issues. Outside of academia, he worked for a biotech startup in South Carolina from 2007-2010 and for the Minnesota Department of Health and Minnesota Department of Agriculture from 2011-2016. He worked as a manager of the Research Instrumentation Laboratory at UMD from 2016-2019 before joining the Chemical Engineering Department.
In his personal life Dr. Shimotori enjoys spending time with family and friends. He likes outdoor activities including casual fishing, hiking, camping, and foraging.
