Making a Difference at the Minnesota Zoo

UMD Chemical Engineering student Erin Maxson participated in the MN Technical Assistance Program (MnTap) as a summer intern.

The program pairs students with businesses to work on sustainable solutions. Erin was tasked with helping the Minnesota Zoo come up with a plan for conserving water.

MnTap published a story with more specifics on Erin's work in a 2019 publication of MnTap Solutions.

According to the article, Erin said, “My summer working with MnTAP and the Minnesota Zoo provided me with excellent project management and communication skills that will benefit me in my future career as an engineer. It was great knowing that my work will create a difference at the Minnesota Zoo and in the environment.”

The article details the specific recommendations Erin made to help the MN Zoo reduce water usage and create a more sustainable environment for their animals. Some of the plans are already being implemented.
