The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) and Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning at University of Wisconsin-Madison are leading this effort. It’s being offered through the Aspire Alliance backed by the National Science Foundation.

“The inaugural cohort of IAspire Leadership Academy fellows have distinguished themselves as leaders in STEM and we’re thrilled to have them participating,” said Howard Gobstein, Co-Director of the Aspire Alliance and Executive Vice President at APLU. “Diversity starts with faculty and university leadership and this academy will help cultivate inclusion and diversity in the next-generation of university faculty and leaders.”

Dean Reed is one of 20 fellows and as part of the new leadership academy will gain executive insight for today’s increasingly complex higher ed environment. She will also focus on building the skills necessary to influence institutional transformation in her current leadership position. The Academy asks each participant to work on a tangible project in collaboration with their university’s leaders in order to apply their skills and improve institutional cultures.

“I’m excited to be part of this newly established group,” said Reed. “We’ll be working together for a year and it will give me the chance to connect with other leaders, examine my role, further develop my skills and focus on a project that will bring positive change to SCSE and UMD.”

This is one of multiple efforts the Aspire Alliance has launched to improve inclusivity on college campuses. To learn more about their efforts, visit the IAspire Leadership Academy website.
