GeoWall Team Takes First Place

Months of preparation and design work pay off for a group of Civil Engineering students.

Faced with the task of creating a folded retaining wall with sheets of paper, the GeoWall team began their design in October of 2017.

A number of new members joined the team; many of whom had little experience. The team welcomed the challenge of training in new members, which was a great success. The Geowall group formed two teams this year and traveled to Mankato, Minnesota over spring break for the local competition. They placed first and fourth in the regional competition with their eyes on nationals for 2018.

The other team's design suffered a wall failure, but they still took fourth out of seven teams at the competition. The finishing order was UMD, MSU Mankato, U of Manitoba, UMD, MSU Mankato, UMTC, and SDSU.
