We do outreach at Swenson College in a big way. Our students, faculty and staff engage with local students in the surrounding communities to encourage interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

On Campus Events

Twin Ports Teen Science Cafe

Come to UMD for engaging STEM presentations and activities

What: Monthly STEM gatherings and snacks for local high school students

When: Beginning in October! Specific dates will be posted soon. 

Who: 9-12th graders

Where: UMD campus

How: Limited seating. Registration required!

STEM Discovery Day

Come to UMD for hands-on STEM activities

What: Full day of various STEM workshops and free lunch

When: Saturday, February 27, 2027

Who: 6-12th graders

Where: UMD campus

How: Registration is required and will be posted by late December. 

Marshall W. Alworth Planetarium

The Planetarium offers several shows every week!

  • Wonderstruck Wednesdays at 7p - FREE shows for all
  • Fridays at 7p - Live guided tours of the universe (includes a tour of Tonight's Sky)
  • Saturdays at 2p - Family Show! Pre-recorded shows that are ideal for families (includes a tour of Tonight's Sky)
  • Saturdays at 7p - General Public Show! Pre-recorded shows for all ages (includes a tour of Tonight's Sky)
  • Second Saturday Sensory Friendly Show - Enjoy a planetarium show in a more sensory friendly environment

In addition to public shows, the Planetarium can be booked for private events and field trips.
