Admissions Requirements

The minimum requirements for admission to graduate programs at the University of Minnesota Duluth are:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally-accredited institution in engineering or other STEM field, such as physics, chemistry, computer science, geology, etc.
  • GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Applicants whose GPA falls slightly below the requirement should contact the program coordinator for details.
  • Evidence of English proficiency based on official test score reports for international* applicants.
  • Unofficial transcripts for all post-secondary coursework and degrees.
  • GRE or GMAT scores are NOT required.

*Due to the online modality of this program, it does not qualify for U.S. F-1 student visas.

Application Process

The Master of Engineering program accepts applications year-round on a rolling basis for fall, spring, and summer admissions with priority deadlines on April 15 (fall and summer enrollment) and October 15 (spring enrollment).

Tuition, Fees, and Financial Aid

Tuition and fees for the Master of Engineering program is assessed on a per credit basis. The cost per credit for the 2025-26 academic year is $755.60 (resident and non-resident rate). 

Students are encouraged to:

  • File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form by the deadline to determine eligibility for federal and state funds. 
  • Check with your employer to see if they provide financial support for earning your graduate degree.
  • Search for national and local scholarship opportunities that fund graduate education.
  • Consider securing loans through private lenders.

Special scholarships are available for students who live in Minnesota’s Iron Range* region. These scholarships are designed to:

  • Reduce the cost of graduate education;
  • Encourage professional growth within the region; and
  • Support local workforce development and innovation.
