Planetarium Hosting Halloween Party

Trick or treating just got some out-of-this-world competition for a Halloween night activity.

The Marshall W. Alworth Planetarium at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) is hosting a free Halloween event for kids on October 31, 2018. The event will run from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Planetarium.

There will be candy, hands-on activities, night sky viewing with telescopes (weather permitting), and free Planetarium shows geared towards kids. Bob King, a.k.a. Astro Bob, will also be on hand to sign copies of his book Night Sky with the Naked Eye.

The Planetarium has a new director Jessica Herrington and she is excited to welcome people and get to know community members. “Halloween just happened to fall on a Wednesday when we typically offer free shows to the public anyway,” said Herrington. “So, it seemed like the perfect chance to host a party and celebrate the night sky.”

Herrington and the staff and volunteers organizing the event are excited to see people in costume and will have plenty of candy on hand for trick or treaters, too.
