UMD Students Rank Top Three Nationally

Team of Civil Engineering students has created a video in competition for a top prize.

Award Winning Work

The GeoVideo competition is part of a national student competition put on by the American Society of Civil Engineers’ (ASCE) Geo-Institute.

The goal of GeoVideo is for students to produce a short film that explains a geotechnical engineering principle or topic. The team and their captains, Benjamin McBroom and Chanelle Cruz, created small scale demonstrations to pair with basic animations and voice overs that explain bearing capacity. To quickly define bearing capacity - it is the ability of soil to support the weight of overlying structures.

Our UMD ASCE team found out earlier this month that their video ranked in the top three nationally in the initial round of judging.

The final round of judging will take place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania during the national GeoCongress at the end of March. The ASCE team was invited to come and present at the conference, which will also include technical lectures and the opportunity to network with industry leaders.
