Interdisciplinary Innovators
About the Applied Materials Science M.S.
Entering students with base level skills in science and engineering will begin the two semester/14 credit core curriculum. The remainder of requirements support a research topic chosen with the help of a research mentor and graduate thesis committee from more than 30 current discipline-related courses.
The core curriculum is made up of:
- 12 credits from traditional disciplines in chemistry and engineering
- 2 credits of professional skill development
Who Can Apply
Open to students looking for a creative challenge with a science or engineering background.
Entering students should have:
- A preferred undergraduate GPA of 3.00
- A BA or BS degree in engineering, chemistry, physics, or similar fields; other undergraduate degrees may be accepted with additional coursework required prior to beginning the program.
Applicants whose native language is not English must also submit score(s) from one of the following tests: TOEFL, IELTS or MELAB. Details on the scores needed can be found on the Catalog Page

Deadlines
Applicants are encouraged to apply by December 31 for priority consideration of financial support for the following academic year. Applications received after this date will be considered on a rolling basis and if positions are available.
Please note: Applicants from the United States applying for a part-time study or those who are not applying for financial support are able to apply as late as April 15 for fall semester and October 15 for spring semester.

- Personal Statement (limit to two pages)
- Diversity of Views & Experiences Statement (limit to two pages)
- CV or Resume - Please list your technical publications and conference presentations. CV or resume should be uploaded in the Materials section.
- Unofficial transcripts - If admitted, the University will then require official transcripts.
- Proof of English Language Proficiency - Required only for international applicants where native language is not English (link to admission details)
- Two letters of recommendation
- (optional) GRE Score - Applicants are not required to submit GRE scores as part of the application requirements but may submit GRE scores if they feel the scores will enhance their application.
