Connecting far and wide
As the only institute in the world dedicated to the scientific study of all of Earth's large lakes, LLO is in a unique position to promote scientific literacy. Our outreach efforts focus on inspiring others to understand why it is we study the large lakes of the world.
Through our outreach efforts, we work to provide society, K-12 students, undergraduates, graduates, teachers and communities in our region, state, nation, and world with the knowledge needed to manage and sustain lakes for our collective future.
Partners in Learning and Teaching
We maximize our reach and scope of study by partnering with many other groups. The Twin Ports of Duluth and Superior are home to many other academic and agency partners with an interest in regional and global water issues and these include the MidContinental labs of the EPA, the Natural Resources Research Institute and the Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve.
