Because research on large lakes requires tools not available at all institutions, LLO's facilities include two research vessels - the R/V Blue Heron and the R/V Kingfisher, as well as multiple laboratories with advanced instrumentation.
Our extensive collection of field equipment allows researchers to collect data and samples not only from the Great Lakes, but from lakes around the world.
Many of our facilities are also available to outside researchers.
