The Geospatial Analysis Center (GAC) offers free GIS workshops for UMD faculty and staff. These workshops cover a range of materials, such as ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, and Story Maps.

Web Mapping 101: Introduction to Spatial Analysis using ArcGIS Online If you are new to GIS, this is the workshop for you. This three-hour workshop introduces participants to web-based mapping and spatial analysis using Esri's ArcGIS Online. Through a combination of lectures and hands-on activities, participants will learn the fundamentals of designing and sharing online maps. Topics covered include preparing data for use, online data sources, map design, and spatial analysis.

Story Maps 101: Visual Storytelling with Maps  This two-hour workshop guides participants through the process of telling stories with maps using the Esri Story Map platform. A discussion about best practices in visual storytelling will precede a step-by-step tutorial on creating your own Esri Story Map.

Collector 101: Field Data Collection using Esri's Collector for ArcGIS  This two-hour workshop offers a hands-on overview of offline data collection using Esri's Collector for ArcGIS app. Topics include setting up templates, collecting features in the field, and visualizing data once it's collected. Note: Participants are required to provide their own Apple or Android mobile devices.

Transitioning to ArcGIS Pro Learn to use Esri's newest desktop mapping application, ArcGIS Pro, which will eventually replace ArcMap.

To sign up, please fill out this Google Form. All workshops are free for UMD faculty and staff. The workshops are also open to non-UMD guests for a fee of $75 per workshop. Checks should be made out to the Geospatial Analysis Center and provided at the time of the workshop.
