Swenson College includes all the “STEM” disciplines (science, technology, engineering, math) at UMD. The science departments include Biology, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Physics & Astronomy, Earth & Environmental Sciences, and Mathematics & Statistics. The engineering departments including Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical & Industrial Engineering.
We are the home of the Large Lakes Observatory, the Geospatial Analysis Center, the Iron Range Engineering Program, the Integrated Biosciences graduate program, the Water Resources Science graduate program, and the Air Force ROTC Aerospace Studies program. We also have close affiliations with the Natural Resources Research Institute (NRRI) and the Minnesota Sea Grant program.
With more than 3,100 undergraduate and 220 graduate students, Swenson College is the largest college at UMD and the third largest in the University of Minnesota system. We have all the resources of a larger research university but the student-centric focus and climate of a smaller school. Here, you will have the opportunity to engage in active learning, conduct world-class research with our faculty, take advantage of internship and co-op opportunities with our regional partners, and participate in our community-based outreach programs. We encourage you to take a closer look.
